David was born in East London in 1948 and subsequently lived in Leigh-on-Sea in Essex.
As a young man, he studied botany at St Andrews University, which included expeditions to Greeland in 1970 and 1971 to study plants. He studied for a Master’s degree in Plant Taxonomy at Edinburgh University and did further postgraduate study at Royal Holloway College, Kew Gardens and Southbank Polytechnic in London. He is a member of the Linnaean Society and the Royal Geographical Society.
David spent much of his working life as a biology teacher, also teaching maths, physics and chemistry. For a time, he ran an outdoor education centre in Somerset and a Duke of Edinburgh scheme plus taught first aid and climbing.
He married Sue in Somerset (year?) and has a daughter, Maud, son Henry and had a Cairn-cross Scottie dog called Harris.
David has always enjoyed walking, climbing, caving, canal boats, good food and wine and having fun. He lived in a cave for a week in Switzerland to help map the cave, Das Holloch, climbed in the Alps and lived on a canal boat in Kings Cross.
David and his family particularly love the Scilly Isles, and have kayaked around the islands.
David enjoys spending time with friendly people at Wentworth Court and going on trips, and going out for a coffee and cake (or two!) with Maud, Henry and Maud’s partner Pete.
