16th March 2020
Current Government advice suggests that COVID-19 is affecting older people and those with existing health conditions. In line with other care homes, we have closed Wentworth Court since March 2020 to all visitors including relatives.
As a dementia-specialist care home, we have an exceptionally vulnerable group of elderly residents and our priority is to protect them and the people who look after them. The only exception is for end-of-life visits which are carefully managed to ensure the safety of all concerned.
Health professionals are carrying out resident reviews using digital technology and all assessments are undertaken remotely. Other essential visitors will be admissible by appointment and must observe PPE and social distancing rules.
We have postponed activities provided by external practitioners, including our Singing for Joy community dementia choir and Jo Jingles toddler music group until further notice.
Our home manager calls residents’ family members twice a week as a minimum to keep in touch and residents are frequently speaking with their loved ones by telephone We also use digital technology, such as Skype and Facetime to enable families to keep in touch and will continue to post photographs, as far as individual consents allow, of residents through our closed Facebook group.
The care, nursing, facilities and support teams are following national hygiene recommendations and increasing environmental deep cleaning procedures. In line with Government recommendations, any team members with symptoms of COVID-19 including a high temperature and a new, continuous cough will self-isolate at home for 14 days.
